We all know that children thrive in the great outdoors and they tend to gravitate towards the fun outdoor spaces. Children also love to explore their natural surroundings and when provided access to the right type of fun play spaces it benefits their overall health and wellbeing.
At CCS we feel it is important to get involved in the early planning phase of a childcare centre building project. We have come across far too many designs over the years that simply just don’t get the balance right in this space.
There are so many elements to think about when planning your early learning centre outdoor play space. Movement and activity, seating areas, shade/sun play areas. play time and games area and the natural environment space. There is a fine line between installing play space elements such as (Cubby houses, pirate ships, sandpits, sensory equipment, stepping stones, bike tracks, vegetable gardens, water features and furniture logs).
Tip:
Just remember to keep it simple, there is no need to go overboard and fill up all the space you only need to choose a few key elements. Try to create a flow using the natural environment and objects for movement such as a ‘Grassy mound crawl and tunnel’ and leave those wide-open spaces open to maintain that continuous flow throughout the space.
